A message from the Executive Director of the Community Education Center:
Dear Community,
Welcome to another season of great performances and some of the best classes in dance and theatre offered in the city. Last season we presented work from a fine group of resident artists, three of the four artists concerts were sellouts, all of their work received high marks from their audiences, as well as critical acclaim. The spring brought much needed arts programming for the youths of our local community, the CEC Arts and Enterprise Afterschool, and Literacy Alive!, the first of what we hope will be many ventures in partnership with the Philadelphia Public School System.
There were several new dance classes and special workshops, and our first theatre classes for adults. We were able to squeeze out a few needed building repairs. Even with ongoing challenges, staff turnover and the lack of funding we managed to do a lot of good work! There is so much more we need and want to do.
We are in the beginning stages of long range strategic planning that will help us to further clarify our mission and vision for the future, and put us firmly on the road to reach the goals that we will set. We have been serving our community with quality arts programming for nearly 30 years, believing in the power of the arts to help build well-rounded, creative, positive individuals, and stronger communities. We are poised to forge new ground; making greater and more meaningful contributions. It is imperative that we hear from you, our community, as we move forward in the planning process. You will be hearing from us as we gather statistical information about who you are, what you think about our service to you, and how you can envision us serving the community, and serving it better. So, please respond went we call with town meetings, focus groups, and surveys. We are on the move to a better, more productive future together, through the arts!
